Proposed Amendments to the Valuation for Duty Regulations

The Canadian government has recently published proposed amendments to the Valuation for Duty Regulations. The government currently has a 60-day consultation period open for Trade Chain Partners to submit their feedback to these proposed amendments.

If you are interested in providing feedback in anonymity, Dominion is preparing a submission on behalf of it's clients and Trade Chain Partners. Please feel free to download the submission form below to document your feedback in the appropriate section(s).

Once completed, please forward a copy to Dominion by Wednesday July 19th 2023, where we will sanitize any company references, and consolidate all feedback into a single master submission document. Once submitted, a copy of the master submission document will be posted here in the library for Trade Chain Partners to download.

How New Laws and Regulations Are Created in Canada

Currently the proposed amendments to the Valuation for Duty Regulations are at Stage 6 of 8 in the regulatory process. It is important to note, this is the final opportunity for Trade Chain Partners to provide their feedback, as outlined in the chart below.

During our conversations with Trade Chain Partners, it was discussed that the need may arise where a “Valuation for Duty Regulations -Trade Chain Partner Coalition” might be required to engage the government on these proposed amendments.

As a result, Dominion has reassembled the team behind the successful "Canadian Importers 9948 Fair Treatment Coalition", in the event Trade Chain Partners feel that this option is necessary.
